Leveraging photo-elicitation to learn about patient experience
Laura Sinko, Samira Rajabi, Alyssa Sinko, and Raina Merchant shed light on the lifestyle changes and emotional experiences of individuals with compromised immune systems during the early months of the pandemic in the Journal of Community Psychology. The team collected input for this study via online photo-elicitation.

COVID Watch paper named to best of 2021 list
The Annals of Internal Medicine editorial team named our article "Comparative Effectiveness of an Automated Text Messaging Service for Monitoring COVID-19 at Home" to their best of 2021 list. One of the piece's key findings was that patients enrolled in COVID Watch – an algorithmically driven text messaging system designed to monitor outpatients with COVID-19 – were 68 percent less likely to die than those not using the program.
Weaving antiracism praxis into cardiovascular fellowship training
Despite advances in the science of medicine, Black patients in the United States are still twice as likely to die from cardiovascular disease than White patients. In the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Sri AdusumalliLauren Eberly, and Howard Julien proposed a new paradigm for fellowship training that prioritizes antiracism praxis to reduce inequities in cardiovascular care and outcomes.

Apply to be a Penn HealthX intern at CHCI
Penn HealthX and CHCI have partnered to offer term-time and summer internship positions for first-year medical students. Specific projects available to medical students will be identified after applicant selection. All internships will involve working in a multidisciplinary team focused on the rapid cycle development, testing, and implementation of strategies to reimagine health care delivery for dramatically improved value. Students can apply for one or both term sessions. Learn more and apply by February 20, 2022.
